I received your letter of the [— ] Instant enclosing the Receipt Roll for pay of yourself and co[mpan]y for April 1797 amounting to two Hundred Seventy seven [dollars] (the amount receipted) will be passed to your credit on the Books of the[—] haveing been credited for the difference 290/100 dollars in a previous[—] being for pay of Lockey J Reardon. On examination of the R[eceipt] Roll above mentioned, it appears that Joseph Hawkins's signa[ture] is opposed to the name of James Dougherty for the latters p[ay] without any evidence of the former's being empowered to receiv[e it.] I have to request your attention in forwarding a proper Vouch[er] for the amount being four Dollars
