I have and will continue to make it a point to call on all Officers who have received Publick monies, and which remain to be accounted for. Lieu^t Marks will accordingly be called on to render his accounts without delay, and refund the balance remaining in his hands immediately. I will examine the accounts of Captain Sedgwick with the muster Rolls, and in case it is correct you will be directed to pay the amount to him. On the subject of Cap^t Pikes relinquished pay I have to observe that there can be no necessity for returning your Certificate to enable you to continue to pay him, his full pay; his Power of Attorney to M^r Hunt, as well as your certificate authorizes the payment all this Officer of a certain Sum Per Month of his pay, to a period therein affixed, which you engage to Stop from his pay on the Rolls, and after that period to commence paying him his full pay, this has been understood here, and no further payments would be made of applied for than those authorized by your certificate. Besides it is filed as a voucher for the payment and could not with propriety be withdrawn. In my letter to you of the 3^d instant I
