Sir I have the honor of sending to you the following extract of a letter from the War Office (That part of it (your letter) which respected Thomas Edward I communicated to the Secretary of War, who, in consideration of the god opinion that you entertain of that soldier and your engagement that he will hereafter perform his duty faithfully, will recom=mend him to the President for pardon, in the mean time he will do duty in the Corps of Artillerists & Engineers, to which the Secretary has consented to transfer him — Signed. eV Jones.
