Nicholas Fish Esq^r New York Sir The Treasurer of the United States will remit you the sum of Six Hundred Seventy Three Dollars and ninety Seven Cents, which you will be pleased to pay to Lieutenant Nehemiah Freeman Temporary Pay master at West Point, taking his duplicate Receipts, holding him accountable for the due application of the same being for pay and forage of the Commissioned Officers and the pay of the non commissioned Officers and Privates Stationed at West Point for October 1797. I am &c W^m Simmons Act^t Lieutenant Nehemiah Freeman West Point Accountants Office Nov 16^th 1797 Sir I duly received your letters of a[undecipherable] Instant the former enclosing Muster and pay Roll of the detachment at West Point for October 1797 amounting to Six hundred Seventy three Dollars and ninety seven Cents from which has been deducted the pay of James M^cClasty for September the[undecipherable] having been made up in Lieutenant Marschalls Pay Roll transmitted to him, nevertheless if it appears hereafter that he did not receive the said pay thro the latter channel you will be furnished with instructions to pay him, the above deduction in the amount of Six Hundred Seventy Three Dollars and ninety Seven Cents which Sum you will receive from Nicholas Fish Esq^r Super New York on your giving him the necessary receipts in the usual form.
