Pittsburg 10. November 1797 Sir Your letter of the 8^th instant together with one addressed to the Dltn G one to Brig^t Brawns and one to Captain Crawford is accounted. Hope by this time the several officers have resumed their former Stations and Business will not be interrupted. I find my letter of the 27^th ultimo had not reached you on the 8^th instant, but I hope you have since received it and particularly as it was accompanied by a General return of Stores &c. I am glad that Col^o Forest has assured you he will not neglect my Land Business at the Treasury. Be pleased to tell him that I wish him to make payment agreeable to the act of Congress. But that it is not necessary immediately to take out a Title for the land as I and several other purchasers of lands in the Seven Ranges have applied to Congress for a resurvey alleging a deficiency of quantity and it is said that our Petition was referd to the Secretary of the Treasury and therefore I have to request you to ask Mr Wolcott what is like to be the result of our application and should it be determined that a resurvey will not be granted, in that case you will please to direct Col^o Forest in yourself to take out a patent agreeable to the certificate of Sale by the Commissioners. I am procuring Materials for mounting the four 18 Prs 26 Pounders. Brig^t and it is probable our fears of German Canage may differ you will be pleased to inform me whether the Carriage you mean is not in most respects similar to a Ship Carriage and if that is the case our Opinions differ widely in the construction of a proper Garrison or Battery Carriage as in my opinion it ought to be nearly similar to a field Carriage except the limbers.
