The pay roll for pay of yourself & detach[ment] up to the 30th September 1797 has undergone exam[ination] and been found free of error you will acco[rdingly] have remitted to you by Samuel Lewis Senr a b[ill] in the War Office One hundred seventy two dol[lars] and sixty seven cents, which with the remittance made to you through the same channell the 17th ulto compleats the amount of the Pay roll being six hundred and ten dollars; you will be pleased to transmit Mr Lewis's duplicate receipts by different conveyances for the present remittance, holding yourself accountable for the due application of the same.
Your recruiting & contingent account has also been examined and found to be correct with the exception of four dollars premium charged by you for enlisting Williams and Connolly which can only be admitted when they are duly mustered, this deduction leaves a balance of Ten dollars against you, to which you will attend at the next settlement.
You will be very particular in all cases where deserters are apprehended to have all disbursments for pursuing and apprehending them opposed to their pay, this precaution applies to Morgan & Davis.
