Staats Morris Baltimore Sir Accountants Off[ice] November 7^th [17]97 I received your letter of the 1^st Inst enclosing the receipt roll for September and the m[uster] & pay roll for October 1797 of the detachment un[der] your command, so soon as you transmit a rec[eipt] from Jonas Bentley for his pay for September w[ith] his mark properly evidenced (which is not the case on the roll) the amount of the former will be passed to your credit on the books of this Office being Three hundred forty nine dollars & ⁰⁰/100 — You will receive the amount of the latter (Three hundred dollars) as well as the balance of your recruiting account making in all Three hundred and twenty six dollars from John Kitty Esq: Supervisor at Bal- timore to whom you will be pleased to give the neces- -sary receipts holding yourself accountable for the due ap- -plication of the same, — You will observe by this re- -mittance that your account has been credited with the Ten dollars premium for apprehending Cornelius Davry it will however be proper on your part to inform the Office to whom he was transferred, the necessity of stopping this and any other sum that may have occured in apprehend- ing him, out of his pay agreeably to the articles of War. I observe a man of the name of Donohow who is continued on your muster rolls — whose time or date of inlistment is said to be unknown, for want of any better information on the subject reference must be had to the Soldier who can undoubtedly inform you who inlisted him and most likely the date and for what period, and so much of such information as you can obtain to be noted on the next muster roll, for the purpose of obtaining the exact period.
