Pittsburgh 6^th November 1797 Sir I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of yours of the 28. September with its enclosures. —— The Clothing has this year been decided at Philadelphia & Packages formed & the quantity destined for each post — that for the post on the Lakes has been sent by the way of the north river, that for Forts Miamis, Defiance, Fort Wayne, [undecipherable] & forwarded to This place — on this account I had a difficulty in making the apportionments of Clothing for Massac & Kaskaskia agreeable to your orders — There [undecipherable] to this [undecipherable] no written Clothing renders it impossible to Comply with your directions respecting it — the Clothing arriving so late in the Season obliges me to direct [undecipherable] Fort Wayne &c to be forward to Fort Washington — The enclosed Letter to Col[onel] [undecipherable] contains instructions to [undecipherable] which I hope will meet your approbation. —— Previous to the receipt [undecipherable] I had engaged to [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] being under [undecipherable] engagements have been sent to Detroit. —— the Stores, window Glass &c have been forwarded some time ago to Detroit — The Sec[retary] of War having approved of your plan of building an additional Vessel on the Lake, the necessary articles from Philadelphia have been received at, & forwarded from, this Place. —— agreeable to your orders there has been two Garrison Flags, Stationary, Bar Iron & Nails forwarded from this place to Massac. —— I enclose a General return of Q[uarte]r Master Stores to as late periods as I have received Returns from the different Posts. —— I am, Sir, with great respect Your Very ob[edien]t & Hum[ble] Ser[van]t.
