On examination of the muster roll [of]
Troops stationed at Mud Island Fort mustered [—]
for the month of October last I find two rece[its]
enlisted by Major Tousard, one of which has [lost]
his right eye. I request you will inform me [if]
they are considered proper recruits.
The roll in other respects is imperf[ect]
and requires an explanation from you.
