John Steele Esq^r Comptroller of the Treasury         Sir         On receiving your note with the enclosures I caused a further examination to be made in respect to the claims of Nathaniel Alexander for land, and find the opinion given by me in February last, only extended to his services as mate in the Hospital Department in N^o Carolina but it appears he was transferred to the Hospital Department South Carolina in which service he continued to the 1^st August 1783 when he retired and is returned for land as one of the quota of that State: but before the warrant can be obtained it will be necessary for him to identify himself to be the same person who performed the service, then he can empower any person to receive it for him.         Sam^o y^e.         W^m Simmons         Acct^t [Page 5 YPU01]
