Elizabeth Town Oct^r 31. 1797 I sent to the Cashier of the Bank of U. States a bill drawn on you as Agent for the Q^r Master Departm^t for One thousand Dollars at 15 days Sight. It was transmitted about a fortnight ago, but as it is possible that the whole of the time has not yet run out, & as I have been w.b. the necessity of drawing for it, you will much oblige me by causing it nevertheless to be paid at Bank immediately upon receipt of this. If the mony for this purpose should not be in your hands, & should require a delay of the payment for a day or two, I will thank you to make such arrangements notwithstanding at the Bank on thursday, my C M for 1000 Dols. which will probably be that day, may be there accepted & paid. I congratulate you on the abatement of the fever in your [undecipherable] the consequent Safety with which you & the rest of your fellow citizens as well as the Members of the general government may return & again reside there.
