Dear Sir,
I have written by my Brother to the Secretary of War soliciting an appointment in my Profession to one of the United States Frigates. I am very anxious to be in the Navy. I have to request of you a recommendatory letter if you think I merit such a one to the Secretary of war. my Brother will with pleasure Take charge of it. By complying with this request you will confer an obligation which will be memorable.
