War Office October 25^th 1797 Sir, I am directed by the Secretary of War to request that you will be pleased to publish that you will receive proposals for the deliving at West Point of such a quantity of good oak wood as Col. Rochefontaine shall furnish you an estimate as necessary for the use of the garrison for the ensuing winter and that you close with the best offer. This wood must be landed in a place where it can be conveniently piled and guarded or from whence it can be easily moved to the wood yard. It is to be delivered to the Quarter Master from whom you will require triplicate receipts one of which you will send to this office.
