3 of March last, wherein I am directed to furnish an abstract by the first week in January next of the names of the receivers of public monies unaccounted for. In rendering your accounts you will please to be particular in stating an account current charging the monies received and crediting the expenditures, agreeable to the Pay Rolls and accounts, you were furnished with, also filing the receipts with the accounts with corresponding numbers which are to accompany the account current. A list of the sums remaining unpaid accounting for any balance remaining your hands unappropriated is also to be furnished. Your particular attention to these several objects is [strikethrough: particularly] requested as Col. Nevill the P.M.G. has been furnished with directions to attend the final settlement of all the accounts relative to that expedition & is to attend for that purpose on the 18^th of November next, before which time I flatter myself your accounts and vouchers will be all be regularly furnished and examined in this Office and the amount paid by you passed to its proper account in the aforementioned abstract to be furnished to Congress. Jersey Militia called out to suppress an insurrection in the western counties of Pennsylvania in the year 1794, all tending to the object, that is — to account for monies paid to them for the pay of the said militia, by producing the necessary vouchers for the sums paid, or by refunding any balance that may remain in their hands, unappropriated, without delay to the Treasurer of the United States — From the general tenor of these letters, you will readily perceive the necessity of their using all dispatch possible in this instance, and if you can any way assist them in forwarding the business I shall consider myself obliged to you, and to leave you (as much as possible) master of the business I leave the letters open for your perusal & government, you will please to seal and forward them with all possible expedition, as I am unacquainted with the gentlemen in question. I have to request the favor of you to add it to the superscription on the letters respectively, and also opposite to their names on the enclosed list, after which you will be so obliging as to return it to serve as a guide in case it may be necessary for me to address any of them hereafter. there is also enclosed another letter for yourself from me, similar to the others, whereby you will observe that you also stand charged on the abstract rendered by the P.M.G. with monies paid to, you for the same object; to this letter permit me to repeat my request of your speedy attention.
