[Page 409 YO061] M^r Bernard Vanton Accountants Office late Cap^t of a Comp^y of N.S. militia October 17^th 1797 Sir On examination of Presley Nevill's accounts as Paymaster General to the Militia called out to suppress an insurrection in the western counties of Pennsylvania in the year 1794, you stand charged with money received from James Mott Treasurer of the State of New Jersey for the pay of a company of militia belonging to the 3^d New Jersey Regiment commanded by you, agreeably to the order of Serj Marsh Paymaster to said Regiment employed on that expedition and as no vouchers have hitherto been transmitted this Office to exonerate you from said charge, I have to request your immediate attention in producing such as you possess, or can obtain in a short time, properly stated, and in case of deficiency to refund the balance unaccounted for in your hands to the Treasurer of the United States. I am under the necessity of being the more urgent in requesting your attention to this object in consequence of a resolution of Congress of the 3^d of March last, directing to furnish an abstract by the 1^st of January next of the names of all the receivers of public monies unaccounted for. Col. Nevill the Paymaster General has been furnished with directions to attend to the final settlement of all the accounts relative to that expedition and is to attend on the 15^th of November next for that purpose before which time I flatter myself your accounts and vouchers will be all regularly furnished and examined this Office, and the amount paid by you passed to its
