M^r Archibald Carey Randolph Accountants Offi[ce] late Captain of a Troop of October 17^th 179[7] Virginia Militia Cavalry — Richmond Post Office Sir In an abstract of monies advanced by Pre[sley] Nevill Paymaster General to the militia called out to suppress an insurrection in the western counties in Penn-sylvania in the year 1794; you stand charged with mo-nies paid to you by him pursuant to Warrants in your favor for the pay of a Troop of Virginia Militia Cava[lry] commanded by yourself employed in the said exped[iti-]ons and as no vouchers have hitherto been transmitted t[o] this Office to exonerate you from those advances I hav[e] to request your immediate attention in transmitting such as you actually possess or can procure shortly, [pro-]-perly stated — and in case of a deficiency to refund t[he] balance unaccounted for in your hands to the Treasure[r] of the United States. I am under the necessity to be the mo[st] urgent in requesting your attention to this object in cons[e-]-quence of a Resolution of Congress of the 3 March last directing me to furnish an abstract by the first wee[k of] January next of the names of all the receivers of pub[lic] monies unaccounted for In rendering your accounts you will be pa[rtic-]-cular in stating an account Current — charging the mo[nies] received and crediting the expenditures made agreeably [to] the Pay Rolls and accounts you were furnished with, als[o] filing the receipts with corresponding numbers which are to accompany the account current. Your particular attention is required to these several Objects as Col Nevill the Paymaster general has been furnished with directions to attend to the final settlement of all the accounts relative to [that] ex-pedition and is to attend for that purpose on the 15 Nov[^r] next before which time I flatter myself your accounts and vouchers will be all regularly furnished and exami-ned in this Office and the amount paid by you passed to its proper account in the aforementioned abstract to be furnished to Congress.
