M^r Henry Pendleton Accountants Office late P.M. to Col. Campbell's Reg. October 17^th 1797 Virginia Militia — Culpeper County. Sir In an abstract of monies advanced by Presly Nevill, paymastergeneral to the militia called out to suppress an insurrection in the western Counties of Pennsylvania in the year 1794. you stand charged with monies received from him pursuant to warrants in your favor, for the pay of Col. Campbell's Regiment of Virginia Militia employed in said expedition; and as no vouchers have hitherto been transmitted to this Office to exonerate you from those advances, I have to request your immediate attention in rendering such as you possess, or can obtain in a short time, properly stated, — and in case of deficiency to refund the balance to the Treasurer of the United States. I am under the necessity of being the more urgent in requesting your attention to this object, in consequence of a Resolution of Congress of the 3^d March last directing [undecipherable] to furnish an abstract by the first week in January [undecipherable] of the names of all the receivers of public monies, unaccounted for. In rendering your accounts you will be parti[undecipherable: particular] in stating an account current, charging the monies receiv[undecipherable: received] and crediting the expenditures made, agreeably to the pay r[undecipherable: rolls] and accounts you were furnished with; — also filing the recei[undecipherable: receipts] with the accounts, with corresponding numbers, which are [undecipherable: to] accompany the account current — A list of the sums remaining unpaid, accounting for any balance remaining in your hands unappropriated, is likewise to be furnished. Your particular attention is required to these several objects, as Col. Nevill, the P.M.G. has been furnished w[undecipherable: with] directions to attend to the final settlement of all the acco[undecipherable: accounts] for that expedition, & is to attend on the 15^th of November n[undecipherable: next] for that purpose: before which time I flatter myself yo[undecipherable: your] accounts and vouchers will all be regularly furnished a[undecipherable: and] examined in this Office, and the amount paid by you, pa[undecipherable: passed] to its proper account on the aforementioned abstract to b[undecipherable: be] furnished to Congress.
