I received your letter of the 7th Instant covering a Muster and Pay Roll of the detachment under your comma for Sept 1797 from which I have deducted from the pay of George arlett, private six cents being an overcharge, leaves a ba of Three hundred forty nine dollars and sixty nine cents which amount you will receive as usual from John Kitty Eqr Supervisa at Baltimore on giving the customary receipts — I also receive a roll of said detachment for the month of August 1797 paid by Lieut. Dyson amounting to Two Hund forty four dollars and ninety two cents which will be po to the credit of his account and the balance of Twelve dol and ten cents remaining in his hands he will be held accountable for.
I have examined Capt Blackburns Rolls June and July last (the only rolls in the Office now) & find Cooper was inlisted on the 1th August 1794 and deserted [undecipherable] Norfolk the 26th May 1797 — the other men shall be searched shortly & the result mentioned to you in my next.
