My dear Sir
Mr Lewis writes me on the 29th Ulto. "I saw Mr Wolcott the Secy of the Treasury yesterday, who was very well. He informed me there was a general, or very strong report, that Gen. Wilkinson was in the South western territory at the head of the army there. He mentioned it with some surprize."
On the 6th of July the Genl was at Detroit, and making preparations to move with a small detachment to Kaskaskias - where dispositions to revolt [strikethrough: bad citizens] among a few french settlers had been exhibited. I believe I shall be able to settle matters in the South western territory (meaning Tempee) without him. You will find the particulars of this affair in Burro,
[Return me the inclosed letter to Cap Guion. It will give you some information and save me some writing.]
I am kept too busy to get well.
Yours sincerely
James McHenry
