Sep^t 26, 1797— M^r Da Costa informs me that the five nine pounders will answer sufficiently with [strikethrough: those] at Hughes's furnaces — if so, will it not be best to have them and cleaned & stored immediately — I have also so written to M^r Hodgdon. If the nine pounders will answer in the opinion of experienced persons, I think we shall be able to [strikethrough: get] the Frigate to use this frame. — But this point being determined, I beg the guns will be let the whole be shipped as soon as possible, & proper directions [undecipherable] with respect to the Carriages. It is time to consider what Cargo shall be sent in the Frigate — the opportunity will be favorable for transmitting a a considerable part of the articles stipulated for in the Treaty. — are all things in proper train on this Subject.
