Pittsburg 22^d September 1797 Sir, Your letter of the 15^th instant is received & accompanied by one addressed to Col: Sergeant which shall be forwarded by a safe hand. I am much obliged to you for your very great attention to my claim on the Secretary of War and have to beg of you to persevere in this business untill it is explained whether I am to make a charge for services as Deputy Commissary of Provisions from 1^st January 1795 to 1^st June 1797 inclusive in addition to compensation for services as D. 2. M. G. or to make one charge for my Services agreeable to Col: Pickering's proposal viz 100 dollars per Month. You will see a necessity for a decision in this point previous to my making out and transmitting to you my account for Services. I have this day found it necessary to draw on you in favor of John Wrenshall for 800 dollars at 15 days sight which be pleased to pay & charge as usual. I am very respectfully, Sir, Your Obedient.
