Sam^l &c H^m Simmons acc^t William Polk Esq^r Accountants Offic[e] Supervisor North Carolina September 7^th 179[7] Sir I wrote you the 26^th ultimo enclosing to you two letters — one for M^r Samuel Treadwell the other for M^r Potts requesting you would be pleased to direct and for[ward] them— I now enclose herewith [strikethrough: here] a letter for M^r John[son] and one for Nicholas Long Esq^r both of your State and requ[est you] will direct and forward them to their several places of [abode] the said persons being charged with monies at this O[ffice] I wish to give them an oportunity of forwarding the ne- -cesary vouchers or refunding the balance to the Tre[asurer] of the United States, in order that their names may not appear among the delinquents, in an abstract of all re- -ceivers of public monies from 1^st January 1791 to 1^st [Jan] 1797 which I am to lay before Congress by the first [of] January next, pursuant to a Resolve of the House of Representatives of 3^d March 1797.
