I have been honored w the your letter of the 4^th inst. and beg you to be assured that it would have given me great pleasure [to] in [the] circumstances [admitting] of a free compliance with your request. [Sevier],] [strikethrough: [undecipherable] [undecipherable]] but from the arrangements [strikethrough: in operation [undecipherable]] [strikethrough: Christian] boundary line and to [undecipherable] over the [Indian] boundary line and [strikethrough: dispossess] intruders upon their lands and from the temper [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [would] not be proper at [undecipherable] to give any recommendation to or let any Officers on that frontier which might be construed into a permission to visit or survey land within their boundaries. I am Sir with the gre[a]t respect, &c 5 Sept. [Mr] Gen. Noailles has stated to me that a [Mr.] Wheating [undecipherable] his friend is about to depart for the State of Tenepee to visit some property there and have deeds of it recorded, and has requested me to mention him to your Excellency.
