In compliance with the request in your letters of the 15th Ultimo & 24th Instant you will receive from Samuel Lewis Clerk in the War Office the amount due yourself and the other Officers stationed at Niagara for subsistence up to 31st July 1797 being four hundred twenty four Dollars & thirty six cents for which you will transmit him your duplicate receipts holding yourself accountable for the due application of the same which you are to do in the following manner viz.
