We have not been able either to locate a better copy of the document, or to enhance its legibility electronically.] Pittsburgh 24^th August 1797 I enclose an addition to my accounts for Expenditures the Q'r Master Department for the Month of June July & August. —— Since some of the Q'r [undecipherable] [undecipherable] have been on you[r] the following Bills Viz: —— N° 104 in favour George Wallace Esq'r dated at Pittsburgh 20^th August 97 at 15 days sight for . . . . . . . . $2000 N° 105 in favour [undecipherable] [undecipherable] dated at Pittsburgh [undecipherable] at [undecipherable] days sight for . . . $2.500 267 I enclose the accounts rendered by M'r Flanagan & M'r Anderson of Bills drawn by them on the Secretary of War — I beg you would examine them & report to me, whether they are right, so that a final adjustment of their accounts may take place.— M'r Matthews Earnest acts as Agent Q'r Master General at Detroit — he has my authority to draw on you from time to time, as he may require Money for the Expenditures in the Q'r Master Department, Numbers in his Vouchers regularly from N° 1 upwards & keeping such Controul & advised. General Wilkinson has ordered a Schooner of [undecipherable] Seventy tons burden to be built & [undecipherable] the [undecipherable] winter. Should it meet with the approbation [undecipherable] Secretary of War — I have written to him on the Subject & we will [undecipherable] please to call on him. Should he approve [undecipherable] you will buy all of such articles as will be requisite to Come from Philadelphia on a vessel of that size [undecipherable] and them without delay — The articles you purchase for the Sloop Detroit will regulate what will be wanted for the New Schooner — In addition to which there will will be required a quantity of Paint white, yellow & black two Barrels of Turpentine & one of Rosin. —— I enclose two Memorandums one for Col.
