may 19th. To Pay: Cecilia had 4 dollars of her wages.
It was a Beautiful day in the visible world — only dull in my dull mind. But even that was somewhat vivified by the bright Sunshine, the azure sky marbled with white wreathy clouds, the Verdant Earth of an emerald Green and the Blossoms profusely Scattered abroad. No one drank tea with me; but at night-fall Mary Logan came to stay all night and to morrow. Maria will not come.
Second Day morning may 21st 33.
Yesterday we were alone all day, only mary and Gustavus and Dickinson were here. The Weather cool for the season, but very delightful to me. There has been an excitement in town about the coloured Gentry; but we hope it is allayed.
3d Day morning the 22d.
I shall subjoin the newspaper account of the late disagreeable affair in town, which is thought to be pretty correct. I do not know who Mrs Maria Chapman is — The Grimke's, are the Sisters of the respectable Judge Grimke, late of South Carolina; They are Women of good education, who professed to be proselytes to Friends and have been received into the Society. But Angelica has lately married out of it. Lucretia Mott is a fanatical Woman of our own. It is a very disagreeable occurrence. Who is Abby Kelly? I do not know.
was alone all yesterday (for Mary was sent for in the morning,) was not very well and dull and low enough all day.
It is now 3d day morning. The warmest and most oppressive day which we have had this spring. I have made some change in my cloathing, for the oppression of Winter Garments I could not endure. It looks like a Gust and a little Rain would be very welcome, for it is now very dry and Dusty.
