Extracts of Instructions to Edward Wright as Deputy Pay Master and Storekeeper at Knoxville, from the Hon^ble James McHenry Secretary of War, dated Philadelphia August 19^th 1797. As Storekeeper of the Public Property, You are to consider your self accountable for its safe keeping and delivery according to your Instructions You will reside at Knoxville, keep your Office in one of the Rooms of the Public Building, and deposit in the same Buildings all property [undecipherable] you are the Superintendent. Every species of Stores must be arranged by themselves, so that they can easily be compared with the Returns, not a single Article, however trifling, but must have a fixed Place; every thing must be put in perfect order, and kept so. You will require duplicate orders for the Articles you deliver, and will deliver no article of Public Property, without such order, signed or countersigned by the Agent of the War Department. You will consider yourself as under the direction of Agent of the Department of War, and will govern yourself by his directions, so far as the same may be in conformity with these Instructions.
