Sir,
I have received your letter of the first instant transmitting the Act of Congress passed on the 24th of June 1797, authorising a detachment of the Militia of the United States, and in pursuance thereof, have issued orders for detaching and holding, in readiness the quota assigned to the State of Connecticut. I have also directed the Adjutant General to make returns to you from time to time of the State of the Detachment.
