Grasse's rec[eipt] for Two hundred and twenty seven dollars & [undecipherable] — sum shall be passed to your credit on the books of [the] Sam &c. W^m Simmons Acc[ountant] Daniel Bedinger Department of War Agent Accountants Off[ice] Norfolk August 14^th 1797 Sir You stand charged on the Books o[f this] Office with monies received by you and which y[ou] remain to be accounted for. In pursuance of a Resolution of [the House] of Representatives of 5^th March 1797 I am requested to [lay before] them within the first week in January next an[d a list] of the names of all receivers of public monies from [1] 1791 to 1 January 1797. In order to prevent your name from ap[-) pearing as a delinquent I have to request you wi[ll with-] out delay account for the monies received by you [either] by producing the necessary Vouchers or refund[ing the] balance to the Treasurer of the United States.
