Pittsburg 11 August 1797. Sir Your letters of the 26 ult. & 3^d instant accompanied by news Papers and Letters addressed to Gen. Wilkinson, the Quarter Master Gen. & Col^o W. Sargent, are received. Shall immediately send forward a few of Papers to Fort Washington and shall be prepared for transportation of the nine pounders & howitzers &c^a on their arrival — among the Articles you point out for transportation you mention fifty [undecipherable] shots for 12 inch Howitzers. I presume it is case shot is meant as there is no such [strikethrough: thing] Article here — Shall endeavor to provide the Ladles & livourne &c^a for the nine pounders. A bill of a barrel of [undecipherable] coming forward by Hamilton is received but I am sorry it is not sugar, that being the Article most wanted. On the 23^d of June I enclosed you in two Packets N^o 2 & 3 Vouchers for the issues of Provisions at Fort Franklin from July 1796 to May 1797 inclusive accompanied by monthly abstracts and a return for the whole time shewing particularly the receipts and issues — Also on the 7^th of July I enclosed you in three Packets (together with other papers) a similar return for the post of Pittsburg also accompanied by Vouchers & a monthly abstracts of issues. Since June 1796 the Contractor having furnished provisions at the several posts my receipts to him may be found in the Treasury Office — but necessary I can transmit you copies — as to that time explicit returns for all the posts having been made. There only remains to be transmitted to you a return of Provision at le Boeuf & Presq'isle since June 1796 — This has long since been in readiness except as to a parcel of stray cattle for which I have not yet been able to get satisfactory Vouchers. You will find enclosed herewith sundry papers which respect fitting out & sending forward Robert Knox Esq. &c to Watches — these papers you will be pleased to deliver to Col. Pickering Secretary of State Viz: a statement of expenditures accompanied by the relative Vouchers by which will be seen that Knox disbursed 36 90 cents on account of which I have given credit for 314.00 cents, there the Horse that Knox sold. For, leaving the balance of 2 90 dollars in my favor and which you will please to receive of Col. Pickering and place to my credit. The other Papers accompanying and alluded to are two accounts of Articles furnished, Ro. Knox's Receipt for those Articles together with others furnished from the public Store and a duplicate of an engagement signed by three men employed to descend the River with Ro. Knox, in addition to the papers above mentioned you will find others viz: A. B. C. These papers respect the [undecipherable] Articles furnished by the U. S. and delivered at this place to Andrew Ellicott Commissioner for running the line between the U. S. and the Spanish Territory. When you have finished this business with Col. Pickering I have to request you to inform the Secretary of State of the fate of my Application for compensation for extra Services and beg of him to interfere once more in my behalf.
