[Recruiting orders — James McHenry Esq^r July 27^th 1797] War Office, July 27^th 1797. Sir Presuming that recruits for this army may be inlisted at New Brunswick in New Jersey, I have concluded to appoint you to that duty. You will be pleased accordingly to repair thither without delay. I inclose, for your government, the rules and regulations established for the recruiting Service. you are also furnished with one hundred dollars on this account, blank inlistments &c — The Secretary of the Treasury has directed a Contractor to be appointed at New Brunswick, to furnish the rations of provisions, fuel, Straw, barackroom and such other small supplies in the quarter master's line as may be necessary.
