Brig^d Gen Ja^s Wilkinson Department of War Accountants Office July 24^th 1797 Sir I have received the (duplicate) of y[undecipherable] letter of 28^th June and am satisfied that every pro[undecipherable] step will be taken by you in order to enforce the r[undecipherable] contained in my letters of the 19^th & 20^th may — wh[undecipherable] the statements come forward of the disbursements[undecipherable] the money to the fourth reg^t. and other Troops out of [undecipherable] Thirty thousand dollars taken on by you, I shall [undecipherable] be better able to judge of the propriety of causing the Paymaster to come on to this City to attend the settlement. I have communicated that part of your letter relative to the recruiting Service to the Secretary of War, he informs me that he has authorized M^r Swan to draw for money for that purpose & that he will also send him some the first opportunity, in the mean time it may be applied out of any unappropriated monies in the hands of the Paymaster General.
