Pittsburg 21. July 1797 Sir By this days Mail I am favored with your three letters Viz one of the 12^th & two of the 16^th instant accompanies by the News papers as usual and letters addressed to Col° Sergeant which shall go forward without Delay. I shall call upon Captain Syman who will no doubt refund the sum you have paid for him for which you shall have credit. I am now taking a review of all the public property on hand from which I shall make out and transmit an accurate return and therefore have to request you to suspend for a few days the adjustment your paper. On the 18^th Mister Martin Waggoner together with the several Articles of public property delivered sundries addressed to Dav^d allender & marked by M^r John Barnes Merchant weight 166.8^ths and for the carriage of which Martin claimed of me 8 dollars per 100 lbs but as I have no correspondance nor any considerable intimacy with M^r Barnes having only seen him here on his embarking for Kentucky I have taken charge of the several Articles and which I shall send forward to Lexington as soon as I am informed by you that M^r Barnes has paid or [undecipherable: satisfied] Martin the Waggoner for the Carriage. I have to enable [undecipherable] to return advanced him 30 dollars which you will please to retain and place to my credit. The Box containing Canvas lost in crossing the Allegheny or not N° 3 as I before informed but a N° 2 containing 17 pieces of Canvas N° 6 41½ pair Hallyards it is not yet found and I have reason to apprehend that a very considerable part of the articles that were recovered are so much injured as to be rendered useless, in particular all the Canvas as I suspect it was not immediately used when taken out of the Water by the Boatmen. I have this day found it necessary to draw on you in favor of Robert Campbell & C° at 8 days sight for 1000 dollars which you will please pay and charge to account of the Sally. I am sorry to find it necessary again to request you to send me Blocks for Artillery Tackle for the three Houses at this place [undecipherable] also of the Bluff. It is impossible to procure these Articles at this place and they are indispensably necessary.
