Pittsburg 14th July 1797
Sir
Your favor of the 7th instant, accompanied a letter addressed to the D.M. G. a packet for Col. W. Sargent and the news papers is received.
By last post I enclosed you a copy of an Invoice of sundry articles shipped for fort Franklin on board a boat which unfortunately sunk on her way thither and a part of the cargo is lost and all of it much damaged. Box No 3. notwithstanding every possible effort has been made cannot yet be found and I am apprehensive that several of the other articles are rendered useless in particular the Ships Compasses and Spy Glass and perhaps some of the Indian Goods. A Report of their Condition on arrival at Franklin is not yet come to hand but hourly expected. I wrote you formerly that blanks for hunting tables were much wanted be kind enough to send them forward as soon as possible.
Stationery of all the Western Posts is much wanted particularly at Detroit
I wish to know the result of your application to Mr. Physick it is of some importance to have early confirmation and whilst I am calling your attention to one favor there to beg another viz to send me a barrel of Muscovado Sugar for family use and if butter can be purchased upon good terms [undecipherable] you [undecipherable] a barrel of it also —
A few days ago received a letter from Mr. Daniel Hannagan of which the enclosed is a copy you will observe it contains advice of his drawing two sets of bills on the D.M.G. or on me, the amount [undecipherable] letters have been presented to me but not having any instructions from the D. M. G. to authorise me to take up such Bills Have refused acceptance until I am informed by the D.M.G. of the propriety of Mr. Hannigan's drawing. In the mean time I am [undecipherable] for the inconvenience it is liable to occasion to the Gentleman when I [undecipherable] should mention the [undecipherable] to you and that perhaps you would take up the letter — of that be pleased to [undecipherable] me by the return of post
I am with great respect
