Turner's Company for April 1797 together with a Muster Roll taken for April May and June 1797 the amount paid for April two hundred seventy eight dollars which you will be pleased to place to my credit. An Estimate of Pay & Forage of the Troops at the upper posts for June and July is herewith transmitted. An Estimate for May you have already had, by all which it will appear that twenty one hundred and nineteen dollars are necessary for May June and July 1797 from which sum may be deducted three hundred and seventy three dollars a balance remaining on hand from former months of this year. The result of all my enquiry for Captain Duncan McClain is that in March last he had left a small improvement he had been making about 45 miles north of this place [strikethrough: with an intention &] he had reported of going to transact some business in Philadelphia & to return. But it now appears by tolerable good information that instead of proceeding on the proposed Journey he had changed his rout and proceeded to Canada where it is reported he was employed as an Incendiary in concert with his Brother said to be a General in the Service of the Republic of France and that both Captain McClain and the General his Brother had been apprehended and imprisoned in Quebec, therefore I have now returned your Letter addressed to him enclosing your statement of accounts against him.
