Philadelphia 14 July 1797 Sir– I am this moment favoured with your Letter of the 7th instant, with the Packages mentioned in it–all of which will pass under examination as time may allow–The misfortune of the Boat I deplore, as I am afraid serious consequences may arise for want of the Stores injured or lost–I hope in your next, I shall be advised that Box No 3 is found as it contains important as well as costly articles–The drafts you mention shall meet due honor–I will mention what you request to Colo Pickering–Nothing very particularly New– I am Sir, your Most Obedient Servant Samuel Hodgdon Major Isaac Craig–
