David Henley / Knoxville 12 July, 1797 / rec'd — [undecipherable] day / any the same day] Sir Knoxville 12 July 1797 I have just time to acknowledge a letter from the Secretary of War of the 21 June inclosing one hundred and thirty six Dollars, being retained Money for Capt Wades Recruits, and which was received by Mr Myers. I also received your letter of the 8 June by Ensign Smith, with the Sum of twenty two thousand eight hundred and sixteen Dollars and ninety five Cents being the balance remaining Due General Sevier and his Brigade for service of 1793 which before was deemed inauthorised, but for which appropriations more haped last Session of Congress, all which monies Shall be applied as directed — I am Sir Your Ob^t Hum Serv^t David Henley [signature] William Simmons esq^r.
