July 12.^th 1797 New York Sir I received your letter of the 10^th Inst enclosing sundry receipts for bounty paid your re[cruits] agreeably to the list accompanying them which will [be] on file in this Office ready to be entered in your rec[ruiting] account when it shall be proper to forward it, exce[pt] the receipt of Sergeant Williams for sixteen dollars w[hich] is erroneously dated 27^th July; if you will refer to the [list] you will find that four dollars is to be retained un[til] the Recruit joins the Regiment in which he is to [serve,] four dollars therefore must be deducted from this r[eceipt] for which purpose I return it to you. When men reinlist as old Soldiers it will be necessary to require some proof of their for[mer] services which must be produced with the Inlistmen[t] here, on settlement to entitle you to the proper cre[dit] You will receive from Nicholas [undecipherable] Esq: Supervisor, New York the sum of Four hundred t[wenty] one dollars and eighty four Cents in full for the six mo[nths] Pay and Subsistence as a deranged Captain agreeably [to] the Act of Congress of 9^th March last for which you w[ill] please to grant him your duplicate receipts.
