It announces the Adjustment of my Accounts] [No. 21 [undecipherable]] Accountants Office July 11^th 1797 Sir, You will receive herewith a Warrant for the sum of Two thousand seven hundred sixty eight dollars and eighty six cents, being the amount of sundry payments and charges [strikethrough: made by you] from 1^st July 1796 to 30^th June 1797 after deducting Two hundred thirty seven dollars and twenty five Cents improperly made against this Department for which the Vouchers will be returned to you. As objections frequently occur in the settlement of your account of payments made by you, and as your appointment or instructions does not authorize your making any disbursements, I would recommend that in future all accounts for debts contracted by you proper to be settled in this Office should be immediately transmitted here with [approbation of the] your certificate annexed thereto for the Secretary of War, this will prevent all future confusion and will enable me to debit [strikethrough: on the] Books of my Office the proper heads of expenditure therewith.
