Sir
I received your letter of the [undecipherable]th Instant with the receipt roll for may and the muster & Pay Rolls for June of the Detachment under your command, the amount of the former will be passed to your Credit on the Books of this Office being Two hundred and [strikethrough: sixty] one Dollars
After deducting the Pay for July made up in the June Roll(which cannot be reported on until actually due,) you will as usual receive the amount being Two hundred & ninety five Dollars from John Kilty Esqr. Supervisor, Baltimore on giving him the necessary receipts holding yourself accountable for the due application of the same.
You may pay the men who are to be discharged in July out of the unappropriated monies in your hands and make it up in the Pay Roll for that month.
As I could not with any propriety make the Payment you requested to Mr Palmer, inclosed is your letter to him.
