Fort McHenry July 4th 1797.
Sir
Enclosed I transmit the muster and pay Roll for the month of June, and the Receipt Roll for the month of May. —
In the pay Roll I have made up the pay of those men whose terms of service will expire in July, that I may be enabled to close all accounts with them upon giving their discharges.
You would do me a particular kindness by paying from the amount of the pay Roll to Mr John Palmer sixty four dollars. — I have written to him on the subject and enclose the letter, which, (if it be convenient to you to accommodate me) be pleased to send to him, and if not, I would thank you to return it. You will readily foresee this accommodation is calculated to save the risque of a remittance. —
I am respectfully
Wm Simmons Esqr
A. W. D.
Sir
Your Obedt Servt
Statts Morris
Capt. Comdg
P.S. I would thank you to send me some blank muster, Pay, & Receipt Rolls. —
