[William Simmons Esq^r & Accountant war department] Reading July h. 3 1797 Sir when I received yours of 22^d June inclosing a letter for Cap^t Lyman said to contain one Hundred dollars, when I received it he had left Reading two days before, but my knowing his Situation, I went after him Striving to over take him at Carlisle but was all in vain, fortuneit meeting with Cap^t Jacob Slough going to For^t Pitt I forward the letter with him which you will see by the Recp^t Enclosed; I likewise requested him to forward Cap^t Lymans Recp^t to you by the first post he told me it Should be done Either from Bedford or Fort Pitt W^m Simmons Esq^r I am Sir your Humble [undecipherable] [undecipherable] Rec'd at Carlisle 25^th June 1797 from Lieuten Peter Shoemaker a letter to Cap^t Cornelius Lyman said to Contain One Hundred Dollars which I promise to deliver him, and take his Dupelcate receipt for the same, and which receipts I will forward to him, by the post from Pittsburgh — Jacob Slough [Encl.
