L S Guy Carleton General and Commander in Chief of His Majesty’s forces in the Province of Quebec and the Frontiers there of the L L L To Caron chief of the village of the Abbaye In consideration of the fidelity, zeal and attachement testified by Caron, chief of the Village of the Abbaye of the Folles avoine Indians to the King’s government and by virtue of the power and authority in me rested, I do hereby continue the said Caron to be chief of the village aforesaid, willing all and singular the Indians, Inhabitants thereof to obey him as their chief - Given under my hand Seal at Arms at Chamblee this twenty fourth day of August one thousand seven hundred and seventy six in the sixteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign, Lord George the third by the grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King, defender of the Faith and so forth. signed Guy Carleton By his Excellency’s command signed C. Foy Whereas Caron chief of the Village of the Abbaye has this day sent me by the Hands of Captain Langlade, the original commission of which the the foregoing is a faithful copy, and requested of me to renew the same, in consideration of the waid original being torn and much were at the folder of the paper on which it is written. And whereas the said Caron has unformly continued to [undecipherable] every mention from the British Government. I do hereby certify that the foregoing commission is a true copy of the original.
