N^o Water Street, M^r Steele presents his best resp^ts to M^r Hodgdon, and informs him that he made enquiry this morning of the Sect^y at War with regard to the probability of his wanting any horses for the service of that Department in a short time. The Secretary answ^d that he thought it probable he should want some in a short time for his express. M^r S. will there fore be [undecipherable] obliged to M^r H. to look at the two which are now at Knights Stable and if they will suit he may fix the prices upon them himself To avoid any question with M^r Knight about his commission for selling them — if they suit, M^r Hodgdon needs say nothing to him respecting the price, or payment.
