I received your letter of the 12th Instant enclosing the Muster & Pay Roll of the Garrison at West Point for may 1797 and Capt Littlefield's Account of bounty due to John Wheeler the former has been suspended untill the following explanations take place viz: — Capt McRel's pay is made up for the month of may, it will be necessary that he should state an account of his pay from the period that he was last paid in full to, and deduct therefrom three months pay that he received at this Office 25 Nov 1796 and transmit the same thro' you to this Office; lieut. Rance pay will be deducted as he received an advance of two months pay at this Office 19th May last unaccounted for— You make up the Pay of Henry Mitchell who is said
