The Hon^ble Accountants Office Sec^y of War ✓ June 15^th 1797 Sir When General Wilkinson was called upon to account for the sum of One Thousand Six hundred Fifty eight dollars & ⁷⁰/100 to his debit on the books of this Office he alledged by letter to me of 27^th March last that he had appropriated it to secret service, the same having been submitted to you, you remarked that "The Secretary of War admits the account in the expectation that Gen^l. Wilkinson will make a Statement to him of the expenditure of the money which did not admit of vouchers" Inclosed is a statement lately received from him amounting to One Thousand Nine hundred Sixty eight Dollars & ⁷⁰/100 together with receipts for such of the charges as are marked thus ✓ you will the[n] be pleased Sir to direct if the whole or who[le] of the amount is to be admitted to his credit[.] I am &c.
