[undecipherable] from [undecipherable] [undecipherable] Miss Philadelphia [undecipherable] Sir ella nitta June 9^th 1797 I have taken the liberty of enclosing some papers relative to my buisness with the accountant to the department of War, and request you to transact them for me — his repeated requests to have my accounts Settled immeadiately, the buisness I am engaged in here and attending my making, the journey to Philadelphia at this time on this occasion, and having no particular acquaintance there to authorise to act for me, hope [strikethrough: must make] a apology for troubling you, altho. at the same time I would observe, if you would be so obliging as to attend to this buisness be pleased to charge me with your trouble, postage of letters &c. and I am able whomsoever you name to pay yourself. The enclosed deposition is what I was last pressed to settle will enable you to commence the account for any monthly pay, subsistance in lieu of forrage, for my keep and for my own subsistance in lieu of rations, which may be made up at the price on the this account [strikethrough: which they had to settle — as I have been there the] whole of the time except a few days when at [undecipherable] and in the end to [undecipherable]. I was furloughed by General Wilkinson in June 1796 to this place, to inform the [undecipherable] of war and await his orders which I accordingly did and at the same time requested upon reasons of a [undecipherable] nature to be considered as one of the deranged officers when the arrangement took place. I have not been able to obtain [undecipherable] pay and sustenance or even a deranged officer's [undecipherable]. I have met with the account of Congress respecting the one, which identifies you are [undecipherable] by your letter, find me charged in the accountant books with [undecipherable] twentyript dollars 48 cents agreeable to his statement to me which sum included the money advanced me to replace that which was stolen in 1793. This sum I suppose must be deducted as Congress has not granted the prayer of my petition. I should wish to receive the subsistance for the two soldiers if it be allowed, for which I have inclosed a certificate, otherwise I shall be obliged to send them my certificate for them to draw their rations for the time they were with me. You will observe in the enclosed power of attorney that you can substitute which was inserted as it possibly may be incompatible with your duty or business, to do this business for me. I would again most earnestly desire you to assist me in this affair and write me word what money remains in your hands after paying yourself for your trouble and expense you may be at, that I may draw bills upon you for the remainder.
