[Rec'd. & communicated to the President 22 July 1797] [8 June 1797] Pensacola June 8^th 1797. Sir, I am sory for the necessity of troubling you on the subject of money. — I want three hundred Dollars in post notes, this sum will be as little as will be sufficient for the purpose of purchasing horses and paying my expences here and on my return — besides this sum which I want for my own use to be hereafter accounted for I have contracted to pay the bearer of this express one hundred Dollars for going to Savannah and returning and one Dollar 750 Cents P day whilst he is detained for an answer. If your answer is forwarded to the care of Mess^rs Gairdner & Mitchell Merchants Savannah they will inclose it to Panton Leslie &c of this place which will secure it from suspicion in the Lower Creeks and deliver it to the express who is a trusty man and well acquainted with the Indian Country.
