[Thomas Butler Lt. Col. Commd Department of War]
Pittsburg Accountants Office
Sir June 3d 1797
The accounts of Lt Robert Purdy have lately been forwarded to this Office for settlement in which he claims a credit for bounty paid the following men Viz:
Charles Martin, Patrick McGovern, and Philip Reemer and notes "that the bounty and premium of the [strikethrough: the] three men above mentioned, were charged to him by you, and that it is included in the 210 dollars for which he gave you his Receipt — Jany 1798 further that when you turned over the recruits and their receipts to him, you did not give him the receipts of these men" Should this be the case I have to request that you will forward the receipts to this Office to enable me to balance his account —
I am &c.
