[W^o Thompson Patron — —] f^or W O June 7. 1797 You will find inclosed, a Draught of the Stern of the Algerine Frigate, which will assist the Carver to finish the Stern agreeably to the Design of the Carver here, who was to have gone to Boston — but having come to a resolution of imploying the Carver who is resident in the spot, you will there be pleased to give him such directions as you may judge proper, and I have no doubt but that you can engage him on good terms — As soon as the Flannel for laying under the Copper Sheathing arrives, you will employ proper persons for fixing the Copper which must be done on the Stocks, before the Ship is Launched — as it is an method [undecipherable] it is done better and Cheaper than after she is Launched — [A Francis Esq^r] f^or W O June 7. 1797 The Secretary of War desires me to request you to make out and transmit to this Office as soon as possible an Estimate of what further sums will be necessary to complete the Frigate United States for sea — in which he wishes all the various tradesmen Bills to be inserted, and their particular sums specified that an Application may be made to Congress for a sufficiency of Money to Answer all demands on account of Building and equipping the said Frigate for Sea, that no calls may hereafter be made for that purpose — He also requests, that Cap^t. Barry and M^r Humphreys will afford you on this occasion — The Military Stores may be deducted from the Estimate required as the Value of them have been already Obtained from M^r Hodgson — I am Sir with respect &c Josiah [undecipherable] [seal]
